WHY HIP HOP ARTISTS ON THE JAZZ FESTIVAL?

HIP HOP ARTISTS  ON THE JAZZ FESTIVAL

The international Jazz festival was held for two days at the Cape Town international Convention Centre on March 30 and 31 2012.This festival was meant for international Jazz artists to perform in South Africa in order to express their talents on how to play Jazz .This year's Jazz festival was totally different with the previous festivals because HIP HOP artists was included on the Jazz festival. This year’s Jazz Festival was mixed with  HIP HOP because there were various   HIP HOP artists who performed during the festival. There were various HIP HOP artists who performed such as:
·         HHP (HIP HOP PANTSULA),
·         Jean Grae
·         Skillz
·         Atmosphere and
·         Pharoahe Monch

HHP
king of hip hop: HHP(HIP HOP PANTSULA)
There were also other various South African artists who performed during the festival. And some of  those artists are not Jazz artists but they also took part. Those artists who participated on the festival   are including artists ,such as Zahara,Unathi and many more.read more
The festival went well because and it was just a joyous occasion that will never be forgotten by South African citizens and those international people who have been there during the festival. This festival it was just a joyous occasion for everyone who had been there but a question came into my mind where i was asking my self why HIP HOP artists to perform on the Jazz festival?.I think the organiser of this Festival caused a confusion by mixing HIP HOP artists with Jazz artists on the Jazz festival because this festival was meant for Jazz artists.

"BLACKS ARE FOOLS" IS THIS A CONTROVERSIAL SONG?

THE PUBLIC SAYS THAT A NEW SONG BY SLIKOUR SEEMS TO BE CONTROVERSIAL TO BLACKS

A new song by a South African Hip Hop artist Slikour called "Blacks are fools" which led him to receive bad comments from the public.Slikour who recently released a new song called "Blacks are fools" has offered apology to black people who think that his new song is offending them.Majority of black people are not satisfied with the messages they receive on a new song by Slikour.Majority of black people are not satisfied with this song because they regard it as controversial towards them.Slikour on his new song rhymes written that:
"Blacks are fools they just wanna be fresh and they wanna be cool, give them             little money they think they rule".read more.

Guilty face:Slikour after his apology by his new song
This picture taken from:(http://www.sundayworld.co.za/)
Slikour after releasing this song he received calls for anonymous people threatening to kill him. This shows that other people regard this song as disrespecting blacks and are not happy of that because they are busy threatening him through cellphone calls. The people who commented on Slikour's new song "Blacks are fools" are complaining about this song because they feel that it is putting black people's perceptions in an appalling manner.Slikour claims that those people who think that his new song is offending them they have misunderstood the messages.Slikour said that he wrote this song based on what white people say about blacks. He says that "blacks we are lazy, that is why foreigners take our jobs".Slikour told Sunday world that he was not intended to hurt black people on his new song. He also apologised to those he offended them.Slikour is now promising the people that he swallowed his words and also apologised to those who threatened to kill him.

I think this new song by Slikour will never get support from the public because it is regarded as controversinal to blacks.AZAPO president Jacob Dikobo also aired his views about this new song by Slikour.Jacob Dikobo said that he is encouraging people not to buy that song and radio stations to ban it.for more information:read more

JUB JUB: ARE DRUGS RUINED HIS CAREER?

Bad reputation due to drugs and alcohol

Picture above: Jub Jub's car after crash in Protea  in Soweto
South African hip hop musician Jub Jub his real name is Molemo Maarohanye facing charges of murder and attempted murder and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.Jub Jub is one of the well known South African hip hop artist who recently get involved in a car accident which killed  four innocent school children on their way back from school. Jub Jub and his friend Themba Tshabalala were allegedly drag-racing when their cars ploughed into a group of school children. This incident happened in Protea North in Soweto on 8 March 2010.Jub and his friend Themba were found guilty for drag-racing on public road driving while they are drunk. They were also found guilty for using drugs and drive while drinking .The evidence that they used drugs were found in their urine samples.Their urine sample conducted by  forensic analyst Van Rooyen reportedly contained the following kind of drugs:
  •   Cocaine
  • Codeine
  • Benzoyl codeine
  • Nicotine
  •  Paracetamol

I think drugs ruined his reputation and his music career because people are now calling him a murder.Jub Jub faces charges of murder and attempted murder and driving while drunk and using drugs.Jub Jub since after the accident he is no longer doing well in music because many people want his music to be cancelled after what he did.Jub Jub had never release any album since after the accident.I think if it was not about drugs which ruined his reputation,Jub Jub would be far in his music career. The most important thing especially if you are a celebrity is a good reputation, if you have a bad reputation this will negatively affect your career. read more

MZANSI HIP HOP STILL STRUGGLING TO GET ENOUGH SALE

Insufficient sales and Lack of support from local and international people

(Image:http://myafrica.allafrica.com/)

Msansi hip hop is one of the South African music which is still struggling to get enough sales.Insufficient sales towards Mzansi hip hop is due to lack of support from their local people as well as international people. The reason why hip hop artists not getting enough sales is that majority of people in South Africa prefer international Hip Hop than Mzansi hip hop.You may find that many people in South Africa are buying original Cd's from international hip hop artists, but they fail to buy original Cd's from their local artists.Another issue is that there are only few people around the world who are familiar with Mzansi hip hop, that is the main reason why Mzansi hip hop is unfamiliar on other people around the world. This shows that Mzansi hip hop artists are not able to grow enough sales due to lack of support from their local people as well as international people.

For me i think it will be effective if people in South Africa can give more support to their local artists than international artists.Again it will be more effective if South African artists can rap only in English because many people all over the world will be able to get the meaning of their messages.Rapping in different South African languages will not take Mzansi hip hop abroad because other people around the world will not be able to translate their meaning of their messages. If your massages are not understandable because of the language that you are using people around the world will never get attracted by your music and this will lead to insufficient sales and support from the people.Lack of sales also putting South African Hip Hop artists in a bad perception. This issue  needs Public Relations efforts to put them in a good perception by encouraging South Africans to support their local artists in order to grow their sales. What are other ways that can help Mzansi hip hop artists to get enough sales?read more

Is Kwaito South African Hip Hop?

The differences between Kwaito and South African Hip Hop

image:(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images)

Many people think that Kwaito and South African Hip Hop are the same. Why many people regard
Kwaito and Hip hop as the same music?.Kwaito is the first South African favourite music because it has been recognised since from a long time ago.South African Hip Hop has been recognised few years ago.Hip Hop music is the contemporary music in South Africa. The are many differences that separate Kwaito and South African Hip hop.The differences are as follows:

  • Kwaito is mostly played in Townships whereas Hip Hop mostly played in Suburb.
  • Kwaito dance includes Pantsula dance whereas Hip Hop dance include styles such as breaking, locking, and popping.
  • Kwaito includes township
  • tsotsitaal(gangster slang) whereas Hip Hop include rap and rhythmic styles.
The differences between kwaito and South African hip hop mentioned above is that both have their own cultures and using different styles. Many people are still arguing that kwaito and South African hip hop are the same.If Kwaito and South African Hip Hop are the same why their styles are different?

ARE MZANSI HIP HOP ARTISTS NOT GETTING ENOUGH SUPPORT?

Lack of fans and support from the media

South African hip hop is one of the music industry facing challenges due to lack of support from the media and lack of fans. There are many Mzansi (South Africa) hip hop artists who are performing well but are not getting enough support from the media. Lack of fans also  another issue facing South African Hip Hop.Is been a long time South African hip hop struggling to find enough support but still getting lack of support. This issue of lack of support emerge since from the beginning of South African Hip Hop. The problem in the media is that they frequently play American Hip Hop music than South African Hip Hop music.Another issue due to lack of fans is that South African hip hop artists are rapping in different languages. This cause confusion on other people who are unfamiliar with African languages. There are many South African talented artists who are rapping in different languages, including rappers like:
     <>
    .

  • TUKS-is one of the South African hip hop artist who rap in different languages, such as Tswana,Sotho,Zulu and English
  • HHP-he raps in Tswana,Sotho and English
  • Pro-He is well known rapping in Zulu and English
These artists i have mentioned above are doing well in their music industries but are not inspired by the media. It is effective for the South African media to support Mzansi hip hop than American hip hop.It is good to be proud of your country music before you can become proud of global music. Some people suggest that it will be more effective if South African Hip Hop artists can rap in English,so that many people around the world will be able to understand their music. This will be an advantage for them to sell their music worldwide because English is recognised almost all over the world. The are many people in South Africa who love American Hip Hop than Mzansi hip hop. This shows that South African hip hop cannot get enough fans because many people in South Africa are more interested in American hip hop music. Why Mzansi hip hop artists not getting enough support?
