ARE MZANSI HIP HOP ARTISTS NOT GETTING ENOUGH SUPPORT?

Lack of fans and support from the media

South African hip hop is one of the music industry facing challenges due to lack of support from the media and lack of fans. There are many Mzansi (South Africa) hip hop artists who are performing well but are not getting enough support from the media. Lack of fans also  another issue facing South African Hip Hop.Is been a long time South African hip hop struggling to find enough support but still getting lack of support. This issue of lack of support emerge since from the beginning of South African Hip Hop. The problem in the media is that they frequently play American Hip Hop music than South African Hip Hop music.Another issue due to lack of fans is that South African hip hop artists are rapping in different languages. This cause confusion on other people who are unfamiliar with African languages. There are many South African talented artists who are rapping in different languages, including rappers like:
     <>
    .

  • TUKS-is one of the South African hip hop artist who rap in different languages, such as Tswana,Sotho,Zulu and English
  • HHP-he raps in Tswana,Sotho and English
  • Pro-He is well known rapping in Zulu and English
These artists i have mentioned above are doing well in their music industries but are not inspired by the media. It is effective for the South African media to support Mzansi hip hop than American hip hop.It is good to be proud of your country music before you can become proud of global music. Some people suggest that it will be more effective if South African Hip Hop artists can rap in English,so that many people around the world will be able to understand their music. This will be an advantage for them to sell their music worldwide because English is recognised almost all over the world. The are many people in South Africa who love American Hip Hop than Mzansi hip hop. This shows that South African hip hop cannot get enough fans because many people in South Africa are more interested in American hip hop music. Why Mzansi hip hop artists not getting enough support?

  1. Local music and local artist are not supported like Europeans and you find people buying the original of an European music and copy the local ones instead of going straight to buy from the store.

    1. This shows that majority of people in South Africa are not proud of their local music. It is very crucial to support your local artists than international artists.

  3. commenting on the media's side: its still a big challenge faced by our local artists in getting coverage from the media.some of the media channels dont concider local music even though they include it but they put it after international music. programs like CLUB808 promotes international music than local ones. radio stations like 5FM,HIGHVELD,EASTCOAST RADIO(durban based-radio)they promote overseas music...its rare to here local artists in these radio stations.........(nice & intereting topic)

  4. well there is just a few things we need to look at and they incude the fact the south african hip hop is huge because if HHP can do a track with Talib Kweli that means he is big. the only thing that will kill our rappers is the fact that they fake american rap ascent and talking about girls and cars the dont have, the lesson that should be learnt is that hip-hop is some form of expression in a poatic way.

  5. Well you're there is lack of surport to South African music, but some of the problems is our SA artist fake themselve as Vincent said. If they want surport they need to produce quality music and keep it locally(style).

  6. I think that the reason why people are not supporting south africa hip hop music is due to the fact that the content of the music is not of high quality compared to the European music.

  8. South African venack hip hop is truly the only real and good music there is , other than that all the other hip hop there is is just an imitation of the westernised hip hop. my view, we should learn to embrace our country's 11 official languages instead of twanging likes no tomorrow.

  11. South African people are more American orientated,i am not a fan for hip hop but we people do not take mzansi hip hop serious because their rapping is very and not swearing all the time, and that we think American artists are cool even if they do not communicate an advicing messages to our youth.

  12. Its amazing how we have young talented musicians in South Africa, the problem is that most of us (especially girls) promote American music more than South African music which is not on point at all, because i personally think that American music promotes Illuminati.
